This is the portrait that started them all.  In  many ways it will probably always differ the other family portraits, as I see it now more of the end result of
abuse.  Most of the other portraits will tell stories of what was going on in the home (absentee parents, divorce, neglect, etc).  but this one in particular
leaves out most of the story.  It is focused more on the damage done rather than the damage itself.  Ultimately, I think all the family portraits would look
more like this one if i only focused on the damage rather than the abuse.  This family definitely has its secrets.  There is something hidden in the
darkness of the father’s face.  The mother had to release her rage and anger in some form.  Both parents are large and domineering.  The back ground
resembles that of a jail.  And all that remains are two children who are broken.  Though the oldest has started to mend her wounds, the scar remains-
the damage is done. and no matter what both children’s lives have been forever altered.
